There have been a number of developments in veterinary anaesthesia over the last few years, with the introduction of new drugs (e.g. sevoflurane, alfaxalone, dexmedetomidine) and greater access to electronic monitoring equipment (pulse oximetry, capnography, blood pressure). At the same time, an increased understanding of the need to provide improved analgesia for our patients, has driven efforts to both more effectively recognise and treat acute and chronic pain.
Derek Flaherty has extensive experience in the fields of anaesthesia and analgesia, and will combine didactic teaching with real life case examples to illustrate the important aspects every veterinary surgeon and nurse should appreciate with regard to these essential areas of veterinary practice.
